Bagherese Chef wins gold medal at the Ika Culinary Olympics

Young Giuseppe Molinaro, a chef from Bagheria, triumphed at the Ika Culinary Olympics held in Stuttgart, Germany, from February 2nd to 7th, winning the coveted gold medal in the “Sugar Sculpture” category.

Giuseppe Molinaro, who works at Bacio Bar in Bagheria, a well-known establishment in the municipality in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, in the decisive competition for the gold medal, created a sugar sculpture depicting the character of Captain Hook, the archenemy of Peter Pan.

«What can I say, I’m still incredulous to think that I have achieved such a great goal that until recently I didn’t even dream of! – commented Giuseppe Molinaro on his Facebook profile – Many sacrifices, many renunciations, and countless hours spent training, neglecting everything but convinced that I had to pursue a goal.

I have always maintained that those who work hard towards a goal have a chance of reaching it, and I have given my all in these months of training to reach this level of preparation.

Winning a gold medal in an international competition is a great satisfaction because you compete with super professionals from all over the world!

I thank all the people who made this possible, my family, and my girlfriend for always supporting me, even when tiredness was felt. I have dreamed of this moment so much that until a few hours ago, I thought it was unattainable, and now it’s time to enjoy it».

The Ika Culinary Olympics competition is organized by the German chefs association (VKD) and takes place every 4 years since 1900.

This year’s edition, the 26th, offered various challenges across numerous categories: national, Junior team, regional, Community Catering, and individual competitions, with chefs and federations from around the world participating to win a medal reserved for the most deserving; among these, Giuseppe Molinaro proudly represented Sicilian pastry with honor.
