Sicily, measures against the increase in mortgages

“In 3 days, contributions totaling 15 million requested on the IRFIS platform

PALERMO – In just 3 days, requests for contributions totaling 15 million euros have been received on the online platform set up by IRFIS (a financial company for medium credit dedicated to financing small and medium-sized enterprises in Sicily in sectors including manufacturing, energy, environment, infrastructure, tourism, commerce, shipbuilding, and port infrastructure). These contributions are aimed at counteracting the increase in interest rates for mortgages for the purchase of primary homes for the years 2022 and 2023.

There have been 9,002 applications submitted through the platform available at the link: https://incentivisicilia.irfis.it/, while there are 4,540 draft applications for a total of 13,542 applications overall.

“The funds will go to families and will help them cope with the increased expense due to mortgage payments” – explains the president of IRFIS, Iolanda Riolo.

The online platform, through which applications for contributions can be submitted, will remain open until February 29.

IRFIS offices estimate that one month may be necessary to review the applications before proceeding with the payment of the contributions, which will be non-repayable, by the end of April or the beginning of May.

“It’s a great effort by the institute” – emphasizes Iolanda Riolo – “which, with its 60 staff members, is fully committed to this mission entrusted to us by the Sicilian regional government.”

Indeed, the measure was initiated by the regional government led by Renato Schifani, using funds from the regional Department of Economy, which decided to allocate 50 million euros to the “mortgage operation.”

Sicily is the first Italian region to intervene in this way in favor of families burdened by the increase in interest rates.
